Culture Shock is a documentary following the lives of four young
New Zealanders as they take part in a year long AFS Intercultural
Exchange Programme and spend a year living in different countries
around the world.
Produced by Graham Ritchie, directed by Kate Fraser, this documentary
charts the struggles and success of four very different young New
Zealanders over a period of 18 months as they fundraise, prepare
to leave and then adjust to living in a foreign country, with a
new family, going to a new school and, in three cases, grappling
with a new language.
Shot in Spain, Austria, Quebec and the U.S.A. the students chart
their year with brutal honesty sharing their homesickness, frustrations
and utter despair. They also reveal the ultimate rewards of having
the courage to leave everything familiar behind and embark upon
the adventure of spending a year living in another country. |
